Dr. Valerie May-Stewart, R.Psych.
Dr. Valerie May-Stewart works with individuals focusing on a broad spectrum of issues including workplace stress, relationship conflict, and substance abuse. She specializes in working with men and multigenerational issues, including family businesses. Within an extensive multi-faceted theoretical framework (narrative, cognitive, emotionally focused, EMDR, and family systems), Valerie works collaboratively to transform emotional barriers that are restraining individuals from moving forward in their lives.
As a registered psychologist, she has presented research findings at international conferences and has been actively involved in the local community providing workshops to teachers, students, and the community at large. She has also taught counselling courses at local colleges, San Diego State University, and at the University of British Columbia.
Valerie has been a counselling psychologist for over 20 years and is best described as compassionate yet direct in dealing with her clients. She has provided psychological services in non-profit agencies, correctional facilities as well as private practice. In addition to her professional experiences, she has the personal experience of mothering four active boys.
