Kaelin Toth, B.Sc., Doctoral Intern

Kaelin is a third-year Doctoral student in the Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) program at Adler University.  At Lonsdale Psychology, she provides psychotherapy under the supervision of Dr. Valerie May-Stewart.  Before beginning her doctoral training, Kaelin completed a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Biology at Queen’s University and spent a year in a Master of Public Health program at Simon Fraser University, where she focused on mental health and health equity.

For the past few years, Kaelin has worked as an intake worker matching clients with counsellors, conducting risk assessments and developing safety plans for clients in crisis. In addition, she recently completed an assessment practicum and conducted psychological assessments for clients with complex issues such as trauma, OCD and developmental disorders.  Kaelin has a passion for working with adolescents and young adults, as well as women navigating concerns such as premenstrual disorders (PMS/PMDD), postpartum mental health, anxiety, self-esteem, and life transitions.

Kaelin takes a collaborative and client-centred approach, drawing from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based strategies, and person-centred therapy. She also incorporates elements of Emotion-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and works from a trauma-informed lens.  Kaelin has a warm and compassionate presence and is known for her ability to help others feel safe, heard, and supported. She uses humour to help clients feel comfortable and empowered throughout the process.

In her downtime, Kaelin enjoys spending time with her friends and family, paddleboarding at the beach or lake and reading romance novels.  She’s enthusiastic about travel and loves discovering new places, especially when it involves trying out local restaurants.  And when it comes to animals, Kaelin has a huge soft spot, especially for dogs!
