Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about our services, the therapy process, and what to expect when working with our team
Appointment Information
Appointments with our Psychologist, Dr. May-Stewart, are 50-minutes or 110-minutes in length. Appointments with our Counsellors are 50-minutes or 80-minutes in length. Longer sessions are often recommended for trauma work, EMDR, or couple/family appointments. Your practitioner can help determine which duration best suits your needs.
Our cancellation policy requires 48 business hours or 2 full business days for any cancellation. This policy allows us to offer the appointment to another client in need. Cancellations made less than 2 full business days will incur a full session fee.
Insurance & Billing
At this time, we do not offer any third party billing. Clients are billed directly and provided with an invoice to submit to their extended health provider. We recommend checking with your insurance provider to confirm your benefits for Registered Psychologists and/or Registered Clinical Counsellors/Canadian Certified Counsellor.
Professional Information
While both Psychologists and Counsellors provide therapy, Psychologists hold a doctorate degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D). and Counsellors have a Master's degree. Both use evidence-based approaches to support your mental health and well-being.
Only a Psychiatrist or a Medical Doctor can prescribe medication. A psychologist can support you through the process of discussing medication options with your psychiatrist or physician and help you manage the emotional and psychological aspects of your treatment plan.
Privacy & Confidentiality
Your privacy and confidentiality are of the utmost importance to us. All sessions and records are kept strictly confidential in accordance with ethical standards and privacy laws. However, there are some limits to confidentiality: • If there is imminent risk of harm to yourself or others. • If there is suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elderly, or vulnerable person. • If records are subpoenaed by a court of law.
